Abstract

For a successful achievement of an educational task, positive entry behavior is an essential component, Nursing education aims at the preparation of professional- practitioners who, in their practice, require abilities of independent decision making in the delivery of society¢¥s health care.
The implication of effective evaluation system throughout nursing education is one of tasks to be achieved.
Through this study the present status of screening of nursing students is briefly reviewed, the criteria for learner of nursing are framed and recommendations for implementation -of diagnostic evaluation are made.
Summary ;
1. The screening of nursing students are done mainly by; a) written examinations(university entrance pre-examination and specific university entrance examination) through which the diagnosis of students¢¥ cognitive entry behavior is achieved, b) personal interviews are carried out by most of the schools through which very limited and superficial informations concerning the students¢¥ affective entry behavior while very few of the schools conduct personality tests and aptitude
tests, c) most of the schools conduct physica
examinations for all the applicants.
2. The learner of nursing require; a) the higher
level cognitive abilities such as application
analysis and evaluation as well as effective
cognitive style, b) positive self-concept anc
interest towards nursing and c) health.
3. Following recommendations are made for the
screening of learners of nursing;
a) All applicants who have shown interest anc positive behavior towards nursing througl personal interview are given the opportunities to go through tests and examinations of per sonality, aptitude and health. (Applicants mus have passed the university enterance pre examination)
b) The evaluations are done* by the learner about her attitude towards nursing as we] as the objective evaluation of student b3 teachers on the level of achievement anc students¢¥ self-concept. Results are effectively fed back to teaching strategies.
c) Those who do not meet the criteria of lear ners of nursing after. 6 months¢¥ of intensive teaching be eliminated.
